Pulse Report: AI Readiness & Fluency

Leaders feel personally fluent and sense urgency, but their organizations lack the budget, programs, and structure to turn that into shared readiness.

This month the data shows a clear gap between confidence and practice. Leaders feel ready themselves. Nearly two-thirds (72 of 111) rate their personal AI fluency as proficient or expert. But only 22 of 111 say their organization is strong. The urgency is real. Two-thirds (66 of 111) rate it a 4 or 5. Yet 78 of 111 do not know their training budget or have none. Attention is high at the top. AI reaches the board for 86 of 111 leaders. Still, 42 of 111 run no training at all. The barriers are telling. Time (59) and the absence of a clear training program (55) rank far above budget (31) or leadership focus (13). This is a structural gap, not a money gap. Leaders also value skill over credentials. Just 16 of 111 call credentials very important, but 49 expect AI fluency as a baseline for all leadership. And spending does not guarantee results. Of the 71 organizations investing, only 15 are very satisfied with training. One operator named the missing piece plainly. As a director in professional services put it, the need is for "a clear strategy around its utilization and a training program around that strategy." The work now is to convert personal fluency and board interest into funded, well-designed programs.
