Operators are adopting AI fast but concede they cannot yet measure its value or trust its consistency, so readiness and governance now precede deployment.

Senior operators described AI as here and consequential, yet they were candid that basic questions remain open. The loudest theme was measurement. Firms are deploying tools without agreed metrics, treating usage as a proxy for value that does not hold. Operators argued outcomes matter more than outputs and that productivity gains are hard to quantify. Governance came second. Advisors warned against sending proprietary data to public models and pushed for controlling employee licensing to curb shadow AI. Several insisted readiness and compliance must come first: clean house, fix data, and be honest about current state before implementing anything. The inconsistency of generative output was named as a real obstacle to trust. Cost pressure surfaced through a build-versus-buy question, whether an internal tool could replace paid services. On the growth side, one operator flagged that AI is already reshaping top-of-funnel discovery and content, hinting at channel risk. The unifying admission was humility: they are all figuring it out as they go. For executives, the takeaways are concrete. Set outcome metrics before spending. Assess data and compliance readiness first. Govern which tools employees use and what data they touch. Audit recurring subscription costs against internal alternatives. The gap between stated confidence in AI and the absence of proven value or controls is the real signal, and closing it deliberately is the current advantage.
