Enthusiasm With Guardrails: What Leaders Really Want Before Trusting AI
Insights from women leaders across industries on source verification, measurement, adoption gaps, dependency risk, and the environmental cost of AI.

Senior women leaders are enthusiastic about AI yet openly wary, pressing for verified sources, measured outcomes, and honest reckoning with hype, dependency, and environmental cost.
Advisors in a women-in-leadership program shared candid views on how AI is actually landing in their organizations. The mood was enthusiastic but cautious. One advisor warned that decisions are being made too fast on undocumented sources, and that confident-sounding output is not the same as accurate output. Another questioned whether much AI is simply repackaging capabilities firms already had, urging discipline before spending on the label alone. Several described genuine discomfort over the environmental cost of data centers, a tension now shaping personal willingness to adopt. A recurring worry was dependency: if people never learn how the tools work, they lose the ability to function without them. On the governance side, advisors pushed to document use cases, tie them to measurable business results, and set consistent reporting before allowing any tool to run operations. Adoption itself was strikingly uneven. One participant's company had built its own internal AI with a dedicated deployment team, while others in the same group barely used AI. Taken together, these voices show experienced operators wanting the value of AI without surrendering judgment, skills, or accountability. The signal for executives is clear. Treat verification, measurement, and skill preservation as prerequisites, not afterthoughts, and expect uneven readiness even among capable peers.
