Operators are deploying AI fast but admit they cannot yet measure its value, control its cost, or govern the access and quality risks it creates.

Senior operators across industry, consulting, technology, and franchising converged on a single tension: AI adoption is racing ahead of the measurement, cost control, and governance needed to make it safe and provable. One leader building many agents cannot show impact and falls back on biased, self-reported time-savings surveys. Another watched compute budgets shrink until staff had to ration usage. A consultant described AI eating up to a third of their service suite while they replace their own lawyers with unverified chatbot output. Technologists reported code generation outpacing human review, prompting improvised cross-model checks they only partly trust, and warned that broadly empowered agents must be scoped to each user's permissions, a risk few appreciate. Operators also flagged consent fatigue, where users mindlessly approve AI access requests, and agreed trial and error is no substitute for policy. A recurring theme was that quality control has become the new bottleneck: teams can produce AI tools faster than they can review them, which costs more, not less. The mood has shifted from a year ago. Where leaders once asked why AI was underused, several now see overuse and AI slop, and are hunting for a workable balance between human judgment and automation. The clear executive takeaway is to build measurement, cost discipline, and access governance before scaling further, not after.
