As AI enters licensed professional decisions, nobody yet knows who is liable for the harm it helps cause, and firms are exposed while the law catches up.

A commercial insurance professional raised the sharpest concern in this discussion. As AI becomes a tool in licensed fields such as insurance, medicine, law, engineering, and accounting, it is unclear who bears responsibility when AI-informed decisions cause injury or damages. Options include the professional, the AI provider, or both. The expectation is that case law will settle this, but no courtroom precedent exists yet. Firms in regulated professions are therefore exposed now, with coverage and contracts written before this risk was understood. Executives should not wait for litigation to clarify allocation of fault. Beyond liability, operators noted that AI adoption is uneven along gender lines. Women in male-dominated fields reported being questioned about AI use more than their male peers, which may discourage open adoption. Advisors also emphasized that prompt quality is a learned skill. Getting value from AI depends on how prompts are created and used, making training more decisive than the tools themselves. Taken together, these points suggest the real constraints on AI are human and legal, not technical. The most urgent action is to clarify liability exposure in regulated work through contracts, documentation, and insurance review. The quieter but lasting work is building fair, consistent norms for who uses AI and how, supported by practical training.
