Across regulated industries, operators are extracting real value from AI, but the gains show up as heavier workloads, quality problems, displacement, and uncredited expertise rather than measured, governed returns.

Senior women leaders from healthcare, insurance, banking, accounting, logistics, and IT services described a consistent gap between AI's promise and daily practice. The clearest pattern: those who learn AI are asked to do more, so time saved becomes more work, not relief. Quality is a live problem. One leader rejects AI output within three sentences because teams dump documents in and ignore available brand tools, producing unusable results. An IT service provider is losing clients who believe AI makes them unneeded, and is watching retained clients lay off whole teams replaced by cheaper agents. In high-stakes healthcare, operators insist on "human at the helm," controlling inputs and outputs before the fact, not reviewing after. Measurement remains unsolved. One enterprise leader cannot build a standard KPI for AI savings, partly because a no-layoffs message contradicts the savings story. Finally, value is being created informally. Self-taught staff become unpaid go-to experts whose extra work goes uncredited in pay and promotions until they explicitly negotiate. The through-line for executives: AI value is real but poorly governed, poorly measured, and poorly attributed. The operators closing the gap did so by setting quality standards, defining human control points, and negotiating recognition for the work they already do. Those are the moves worth copying.
