Value audits exist at some firms but operators admit the questions are not yet right. A second theme was foundations. One leader described pressure to deploy AI before basic data was clean, with years of data investment still showing no return. Several warned that AI is being used to let non-experts do expert work without vetting, hiding the logic behind decisions. The missing habit, operators agreed, is disciplined skepticism: people either trust AI fully or refuse it, when every output needs review, especially in regulated settings. Finally, they noted technical talent is plentiful but business talent that applies AI to real problems is scarce, and that governance is best built by extending existing cyber and data controls through AI councils and sandboxes.
