Senior legal operators, mostly in-house counsel, made a clear point: they are not building AI models, so training and tooling aimed at model builders miss their real need. What they want is practical help spotting AI and IP risk for their internal teams, identifying liability, and mitigating exposure. This is a gap between what the market offers and what practitioners face daily. Human review remains essential. Advisors said AI redline tools miss things, so a trained lawyer must still review output before it ships. AI is an efficient starting point, but expertise must supplement it. There is a deeper worry too. Both junior associates and senior leaders are pushing out unreviewed AI "slop," which threatens the critical thinking and development that produce future expertise. Operators are beginning to call out work that is clearly AI-generated. Shadow AI is another live concern. Advisors wanted concrete ways to enforce AI policy, noting that the right approach depends on business type and risk profile. Generic rules will not do. For executives, the signals are consistent: focus AI investment on practical risk identification, formalize human review, protect the tasks that build junior judgment, and tailor shadow AI enforcement to your risk profile.
