Operators are finding that pushing AI from the top fails without two way mentorship, honest reassurance about jobs, and clear boundaries on data and appropriate use.

Senior operators described the gap between leadership enthusiasm for AI and the reality of adoption on the ground. Executive teams are pushing AI everywhere, but employees quietly shut down when automation feels total. The reassurance that works is concrete: roles change, they do not disappear, and reskilling must follow. Skill gaps fall along age lines, with younger staff already fluent and older colleagues behind, so mentorship needs to run in both directions. Operators favor practical, low pressure learning: office hours, safe spaces to experiment, shared tips, and even asking AI to train users or assess a training's effectiveness. On governance, one operator kept Copilot inside the firewall so it draws on internal, permissioned data and shows its sources, rather than pulling from across the internet. Another raised bias, warning that AI could skew toward a male perspective unless women stay engaged in its use and review. Notably, even as leadership pushes AI throughout the organization, operators urged restraint: ask whether AI is really needed for a task. Human review of outputs remains non negotiable, and prompting quality determines whether results are useful or slop. The throughline is that adoption succeeds when it respects fear, closes skill gaps in both directions, guards data, and leaves room for judgment about when not to use AI at all.
