Operators across health, law, software, and HR say the hard part of AI is not adoption but proving its value and preventing quiet data and workload risks.

Senior operators from healthcare, law, software, HR, and DEI functions described a common gap between AI enthusiasm and AI proof. Written policies exist to keep sensitive client data out of AI tools, but operators admit the real danger is unintentional leaks that no safeguard catches. A law firm is now tracking each client's AI preferences inside billing systems, because every client sets different limits and existing systems strain to keep up. Proving AI actually benefits the business remains a manual, uncertain task, with one operator sifting spreadsheets by hand to build a case. An HR leader at a large organization named a live contradiction: staff are told to do more with less using AI, while being fenced into a few approved tools. Much of the AI work is happening informally, on the side of the desk, because few firms have dedicated AI roles, leaving that effort uncounted and unowned. Some users even question whether AI raises productivity or just adds verbiage. Together these voices point executives toward the unglamorous work: measure value before spending, assign ownership, guard against accidental data exposure, and reconcile mixed messages to staff. The operators are not resisting AI. They are asking who is accountable for its risks and who can prove its returns.
