Operators see real AI value internally but admit external and agent deployments are racing ahead of proof, readiness, and measurement.

Senior operators across regulated, commercial, and government settings shared a consistent picture. AI's clearest wins so far are internal: faster emails, reports, and support tools. Customer facing chatbots drew mixed reviews, and operators argued fit depends on product complexity. Commoditized purchases suit automation. Complex, high consideration sales still benefit from human contact that reassures buyers. A recurring worry was speed. Firms are racing in and shipping half baked AI, especially externally. One group questioned the reflex to throw an agent at every task, warning it adds complexity and leaves users underwhelmed. The sharpest signal was a gap between enthusiasm and evidence. When asked whether anyone had actually deployed AI for tribal knowledge transfer and measured the result, no one could claim it. The use case is attractive but unproven in the room. Operators also named fragmented data as a core barrier and flagged the lasting disconnect between IT and the businesses they serve. Regulated industries stressed verification because AI still hallucinates. Across groups, the human in the loop principle held: the output may be machine generated, but a person's name is still on it, so quality checks remain essential. For executives, the lesson is discipline. Prove value internally, measure before scaling, segment automation by complexity, and keep humans accountable for what AI produces. Adoption is moving fast, but measurement and readiness are lagging behind the ambition.
