Operators are finding that AI's hardest problems are human: uncredited enablement work, identity-based resistance, brand authenticity, and contracts written before the technology existed.

Senior operators across apparel, member services, and other industries described AI challenges that are organizational, not technical. A marketing leader at a workwear brand warned that AI now animates and edits contracted model imagery in ways her existing likeness agreements never anticipated, forcing constant legal review. The same leader described a deeper tension: her brand sells authenticity and hand craft, so employees question whether using AI betrays what the brand stands for. Adoption resistance surfaced repeatedly. Operators said staff fear that leaning on AI erodes their own thinking and feels like cheating, a barrier rooted in identity rather than capability. Both breakout groups independently reported that the behind-the-scenes work of making AI succeed, change management, troubleshooting, and adoption support, gets rolled up and credited to whoever initiated the project. That invisible labor distorts who gets recognized and promoted. One operator argued the sharper divide is generational, not gender, with older workers slower to adapt and younger ones fluent by default. Taken together, these point to a clear message for executives: the return on AI depends less on the tools and more on updating contracts, crediting the people who make deployments work, and addressing the emotional resistance that quietly stalls adoption. Leaders should audit rights agreements, formalize how contributions are attributed, and reframe AI as a support to judgment rather than a replacement for it.
