Operators are excited about AI's potential but lack the governance, metrics, and recognition systems needed to prove and steer its value.

Senior operators describe a gap between AI enthusiasm and the structures needed to manage it. Teams see big-impact opportunities but lack governance, so weighing risk against reward comes down to instinct. Several noted the hardest problem is translating individual productivity gains into enterprise ROI that finance leaders can trust. Without that translation, real value stays invisible. One operator raised a recognition bias: AI work in functions like HR, described as female-led, produces useful applications but draws less attention than finance, described as male-led. The question is whether the difference is poor promotion or genuinely weaker measurability. Either way, value may be misjudged and investment misdirected. In sectors where performance is not tied to AI adoption, measuring impact is not yet a concern, leaving early wins undocumented. Operators also named a subtler need: the skill to express hesitancy about AI without appearing to block momentum. Social pressure to seem supportive can suppress useful caution. The common thread is measurement and accountability. Excitement is easy; proof and guardrails are not. Executives should set baselines before deployment, define how personal gains convert to enterprise value, build lightweight risk frameworks, and create space for reasoned dissent. They should also make sure quiet, effective teams get the credit and budget their work earns.
