Operators say much of the strategic, governance, and change-leadership value driving AI success goes untracked and uncredited while technical bot-building gets the sponsorship and attention.

Senior operators, many from majority-women organizations, described a consistent gap between where AI value is created and where it is recognized. The strategic work of asking why, aligning initiatives to goals, building policy, and leading change is rarely tracked, while technical bot projects attract executive sponsorship and credit. Several warned that these sponsored projects run on top of regular jobs, producing visible burnout. In at least one case, the bot output was admitted to be unclean and unreliable despite the enthusiasm. Ownership of AI is drifting from IT to business departments, leaving quality and governance unclear. Operators reported genuine efficiency gains, such as tasks dropping from three hours to thirty minutes, but no shared platform captures successes, lessons, or contributors. That absence means value cannot be credited or scaled. Meanwhile, employee fear of job loss and blanket bans, including one company forbidding even meeting transcription, are slowing adoption and burying the people who quietly build sound policy. A recurring theme was that recognition should follow outcomes, not tools. One operator argued for leaving AI out of attribution entirely so results are judged on merit. The practical opening is clear and cheap: track use cases and outcomes, credit named contributors, staff AI work as real roles rather than side projects, and pair clear policy with honest messaging about jobs. Firms that do this will adopt faster and retain the people driving results.
