Operators agree AI is producing real efficiency and strategic value, but the oversight and governance work that makes it succeed goes untracked, uncredited, and unsupported.
Senior operators, many from majority-women organizations, described a consistent gap between where AI value is created and where credit lands. Efficiency wins are real, with tasks falling from three hours to thirty minutes, yet no one has a platform to document them. Recognition flows to technical build projects, while the strategic questioning, policy work, and change management that make AI safe and purposeful stay invisible. One operator noted men often chase what the technology can do, while women push on why it is being used at all. That oversight work is rarely tracked. Executive-sponsored bot-building is adding to the problem: staff take on projects atop their regular jobs, burnout is rising, and the resulting processes are often messy. Adoption stances vary sharply, from executives sponsoring homegrown bots to a company banning all AI, even meeting transcription. Employee fear of job loss is also undermining the very people building responsible usage policies. Operators offered practical responses: a shared log of use cases, outcomes, and lessons learned; recognition tied to business results rather than tool use; and clear policies paired with reassurance about job security. The recurring lesson is that measurement and recognition systems have not caught up with how AI value is actually produced. Companies that fix this will keep their most strategic talent and defend their AI investments with evidence.
