Operators say AI work is real and widespread among women, but credit, visibility, and documentation burdens remain unevenly distributed.

Senior operators described a recognition gap in how AI work is credited inside organizations. Women, they said, often apply AI to real tasks while others take credit, especially when the work is quiet or behind the scenes. High-visibility AI projects draw attention and rewards; small practical uses do not, even though they may reflect deeper, more distributed adoption than leaders realize. Operators noted that documentation duties, and the AI templates built from that documentation, fall by default to women technical writers. This foundational input work goes largely uncredited. To address the imbalance, operators floated an AI scorecard that would track both who initiates AI use and who implements it, giving people recognition for how AI is actually used, not just who presents it. One operator also flagged a generational divide, with older staff more set in their ways and younger staff more willing to experiment. Boards are pushing for more AI integration, which raises the stakes of getting credit and attribution right. For executives, the signal is clear. Actual AI adoption may be broader and more informal than dashboards show, and the people doing the work may not be the ones being seen. Leaders who surface hidden usage, credit template and prompt builders, and build attribution into reviews will retain quiet talent and get a truer picture of adoption.
